As well as being a jolly good day out, a day at Ascot is a chance to get dressed up to the nines, with the sartorial displays on offer at the races often generating headlines in their own right. However, standards had started to slip in recent years and as such, Royal Ascot have released a new, tightened up list of requirements for dress in the Royal Enclosure.
Spaghetti straps and uncovered midriffs are, as usual, not permitted and fancy dress and replica sportswear is also verboten.
All skirts and dresses must be "modest in length," meaning knee-length or longer, although trouser suits are permitted. And for the first year, fascinators have been expressively forbidden - you must wear a hat, or a headpiece with a solid base of at least four inches.
