London Fashion Week: Hairstyle Inspiration

Our favourite hairstyle and hair accessory trends from London Fashion Week in September 2019, with tips to create the looks at home.

London Fashion Week: Hairstyle Inspiration

With London Fashion Week in September 2019 at an end, we looked back at some of the most popular trends of the season. We loved the outfits on the catwalk, but we particularly loved the hairstyles and accessories. Here is a round-up of our favourite hairstyle and accessory trends from the week, with some ideas on how to create the looks yourself.

The middle parting

The middle, or centre, parting was a big trend at fashion week that autumn. Some designers showed sleek centre partings with smoothed-down or slicked-back hair, while others went for a looser, more textured style.

Burberry chose a sleek, smooth centre parting, which is perfect for a more formal and sophisticated look.

To create it, use the tail of a styling comb to make your parting. At the top of your head, brush the hair backwards, then use the tail of the comb to separate your hair in the centre, in line with your nose. Comb the hair downwards on each side for a smooth finish and hold it in place with hairspray. You could even try a little hair gel for a polished wet look.

To add something special, place a sparkly crystal piece, such as our Narrow Crystal Barrette Clip, on each side. This helps the hair stay in place while adding a little glamour to your outfit. Have a look at our crystal hair accessories.

For a more relaxed, boho look, like the one at the Roland Mouret show, try a texturising spray or dry shampoo once you have parted your hair. This creates volume at the root and an effortless style. You could also use a curling wand for loose curls or tousled waves. Our French handmade Narrow Hair Clip is a lovely addition to this style. It comes in a range of wearable yet unique colours to complement your hair and add a finishing touch to an everyday centre parting.

Headbands and Alice bands

Headbands were a big trend in 2019. Throughout the summer we saw bright, colourful fabric headbands almost everywhere we looked. They look lovely pushing the hair back off the face, or adding a fun twist to a simple ponytail or bun, so at fashion week we were on the lookout for more headband inspiration.

Paula Knorr and Hundred Showroom showed some beautiful statement fabric headbands. They are such an easy way to create a put-together hairstyle with very little effort. Have a look at our fabric headbands.

Scrunchies

Scrunchies made a big comeback in 2019. We thought we had left them in the 90s, but they were firmly back in fashion. They are comfortable and easy to wear, come in all sorts of patterns and materials, and add something special to simple hairstyles.

At London Fashion Week, scrunchies appeared in the Mark Fast show and in Hundred Showroom's presentation. Mark Fast placed bright scrunchies at the base of long plaits to add a pop of colour. The look is simple to create and stays in place well, and a little hairspray gives you the slicked-back finish from the catwalk.

Hundred Showroom used crushed velvet scrunchies to decorate space buns. Velvet is a lovely material for winter hairstyles and could be matched to a velvet bag or even a dress. For ponytails, buns and plaits, browse our hair elastics and hair ties.

That was London Fashion Week for another season. There were some lovely hairstyles and accessories, and plenty of inspiration for autumn and winter. If you try any of these styles, we would love to see them, so do tag us on social media or send us a photo.
