Our small square chignon U pins, from our French Handmade collection, are a lovely way to create an effortless half-up style or secure a delicate twist. These elegant U shaped hair pins are handmade in France and designed to be both beautiful and practical.
How Do I Make U Pins Stay in My Hair?
U pins can feel tricky at first, but once you know the secret, they will stay secure all day. It is all in how you put them in:
- Create tension: gather the section of hair you want to pin and twist it slightly. This gives the pin something to hold onto.
- Anchor the pin: insert the pin with the open side facing the twist or bun. Once it is inside the twist, rotate the pin 180 degrees so the open end faces away from the twist.
- Push into place: push the pin gently into the rest of your hair. This locking technique anchors the pin into the base of your style.
For extra hold, try two U pins crossed over each other.
How to Use a French U Pin
Use the same twist, rotate and push technique for both of these styles.
Half-Up Style
- Take a small section of hair from the top or sides of your head.
- Twist it slightly and hold it against your head.
- Pin it in place using the technique above.
Chignon or Bun
- Gather your hair into a low bun, or twist it into a chignon at the nape of your neck.
- Pin it in place using the technique above.
- Add another pin if you need extra hold.
What Are U Pins Used For?
- Securing updos: holding classic buns, French twists and chignons in place.
- Half-up styles: pinning back sections of hair without the bulk of a clip.
- Twists and braids: securing the ends of braids or smaller sections in more intricate styles.
Whether your hair is fine or thick, U pins make elegant styles simple. Their slim, minimal design gives a natural, effortless look with a lovely secure hold.
