Here at TEGEN Accessories, we are very proud of our signature line of French Handmade hair accessories. While you can find mass-produced plastic hair accessories in almost any fashion store, the quality is not always great and they can break after a few months of wear. We know our customers consider their hairstyle to be just as important as their clothes when putting together an outfit, so why should you have to replace your hair clips every few months? And why are so many mass-produced hair accessories so plain?
With these questions in mind, we created our Ooh La La! range to offer beautiful, high quality hair accessories made to last. Our French maker is a family business that has been making hair clips since 1892, so we can say with confidence that these are pieces made with real expertise and care.
Sustainable Hair Clips
Ooh La La! French hair accessories start life as sheets of cellulose acetate, or resin. Cellulose acetate is the favoured material for many high quality accessories that are designed to last, such as designer sunglasses. Our French Handmade pieces are made from a plant-based cellulose acetate that is durable and flexible. It is this flexibility that makes it so perfect for use in the hair: a cellulose acetate headband gently moulds to the shape of your head, so it is far more comfortable than a rigid plastic headband. The resin is polished until it is beautifully smooth, so it is gentle on your hair, too.
Every one of our French Handmade hair clips is made using a painstaking ten step process. Unlike mass-produced plastic hair accessories, the cellulose acetate is not poured into a mould. Each French clip is cut, shaped and polished by hand, then fitted with a high quality steel clasp. With care, your French Handmade hair claw, barrette or comb is made to last for many years.

As for the striking designs in our beautiful French clips, unlike many plastic hair accessories, the patterns are not painted on once the clip has been made. They are created inside each sheet of cellulose acetate, which gives each accessory a wonderful depth of colour and means the pattern will not fade over time. As the colourings are not created by a machine for mass production, each piece will look slightly different, so your hair claw, clip or barrette is truly individual, to be looked after and treasured for years to come.
