How to do a chignon with medium hair

For medium hair types chignon pins are best for up-do's as this will secure all of your hair. For a chignon up-do, simply:

  1. Gather the hair at the nape of the neck and twist.
  2. Bring the twist up so it is flat against your head.
  3. Tuck the ends under and roll slightly into the pocket of hair that forms beside the twist.
  4. With the pin upside down so it curves away from the head, push the prongs of the chignon pin through the top layers of hair in the middle of the updo. Don't do this too low on the style, or the top will be too heavy and it will not hold in place.
  5. Then flip the pin and push it into the twist so that it now follows the curve of your head.

How to do an updo for fine hair

Chignon pins are very versatile and can work with all hair types. They are also a great way to secure lots of fine hair into an up-do. The method is the same as medium hair which is outlined above. The chignon pins best for fine hair are the 8cm Waved Chignon Pin and 10cm Chignon Pin. The 10cm Chignon is best for half-up styles and up-do's as it is medium length and holds fine hair very well. The 8cm Waved Chignon is perfect for half-up bun styles.

What is the difference between a chignon bun and a twist?

A chignon bun is an elegant hairstyle that involves pushing the pin through a few layers of hair on one side of the bun. This blog goes into more detail on how to use chignon pins.

A chignon bun can secure all the hair up or a half-up style, they can work well for fine and thick hair types. A chignon twist, also known as a French pleat, involves twisting all of the hair up and folding it back on itself and securing with a pin.
