The Top Must-Have Claw Clips for Every Hairstyle

Our guide to comfortable claw clips: what to look for, whether to sleep in one, and how to choose a clip that is kind to your hair.

A claw clip that feels as lovely as it looks can make all the difference to your day. Here we answer a few of the questions we are asked most often about claw clips and comfort.

What hair clips don't hurt your head?

Claw clips are a lovely choice if you want a comfortable hair accessory, but it is worth choosing one that is kind to your hair. Some plastic claw clips have sharp edges, which can catch the hair and feel uncomfortable.

Our claw clips are made from cellulose acetate or a strong acetate blend, and sit comfortably without digging into your scalp. Our French Handmade claw clips are polished by hand for beautifully smooth edges.

The Large Sophia Side Hair Claw Clip is another comfortable choice. Handcrafted in France, it is comfortable while driving or sitting, and its wide opening is lovely for French twists and buns.

Should I sleep with my hair in a claw clip?

We do not recommend sleeping with your hair in a claw clip. Although our claw clips are comfortable, it is best to remove them before bed.

To care for your hair overnight, you might like to use a moisturising hair mask, and try to avoid sleeping with wet hair, as hair is more fragile when wet. A loose plait is a gentle style for sleeping, and it doubles as an easy heatless hairstyle.

Do claw clips cause hair thinning?

A well-made claw clip is a gentle way to hold your hair, as it should not pull or snag in the way some sharp-edged plastic clips can. Our French Handmade hair claws go through a three-step polishing process for the smoothest edges, so they are gentle on your hair.
