Broken yet another hair elastic? Has your last barrette clip pinged off into the ether after trying to fit around your luscious locks just one more time? While having long or thick hair is an undeniably enviable trait... sometimes you just want it out of your face!

So, if you struggle to contain your mane, this selection of clips should help you stop wanting to tear your hair out every morning before work. You might even get ten more minutes in bed as a result!

Hair claws for thick hair

Our most popular style for no fuss, every day wear.

For long or thick hair, you're going to need a large sized hair claw with a strong spring to hold it all securely in place. Our French handmade range has a great range of claws for thick hair - the classic Large Hair Claw and Floralie hair claw come in a wide variety of colours for every taste. There's also our super-super popular Octopus hair claw and the Curved hair claw - both made especially for thick hair as the sides have a more pronounced curve then the standard claws to fit more hair inside.

For something a bit different, there's also the large Sophia side hair claw, which works the same way as your standard hair claws but the clasp is fitted on the side. This gives the same firm hold as the classic hair claw shape but lies flat to the head, so it's great for if you're driving and have your head pressed against the back of a seat.

Barrettes for thick hair

One simple barrette clips can be used in so many different ways, making them one of the most versatile styles of clip we stock.

If you have thick hair, look for larger sized barrette clips or ones with a large gap between the clasp and the form of the barrette, so that more hair can fit inside. Our Arched Barrettes are great for thick hair, as the curved shape accommodates more space for more hair, whereas this Long Narrow Barrette has quite a small clasp to begin with and sits flat to the head, making it more suitable for those with fine hair (or for thick hair but smaller sections!)

Beak clips for thick hair

Another great option for everyday hairstyles. If you're looking to put all of your hair up, look for beak clips with a curve or larger sized versions, like our Looped pelican clip or 12cm beak clip. Avoid smaller clips unless you're looking to create half up hairstyles or to pin back smaller sections or fringes.

Really, the takeaway here is that if you have thick hair, you should look for curved clips rather than flat ones. Also, make sure that you're opting for hair accessories with a large, strong spring. All of our luxury handmade and Essentials range of basic French hair accessories are fitted with the same strong steel springs and clasps which won't break after a few weeks' use - even for those with the thickest, longest hair types!

I have thick, curly, nearly white hair which is growing fast because I can’t get it cut. I want to hold it back off my face but it is not long enough to put up. Please recommend combs/slides or whatever to keep it under control while it grows. I may let it grow out if I can get it past this difficult stage. Thank you.
